Car: 1963 Ford Falcon Futura Convertible
Car's Name: The Falcon. I’ve tried other
names, but nothing else seems to suit.
Car specs: 170, 6 cylinder engine. Originally had a
3 speed manual transmission but was converted to Cruise-o-Matic somewhere
along the line. Raven black with a white top and black and white
interior.
I'm so in love with my car that I took it on a solo
two week road trip one summer along Route 66 in California and Arizona.
The Falcon was a great traveling companion, and brought comments and
interest from folks all along the way.
Crazy car story: Ugh, this is a painful story, but
here goes! I had The Falcon in my garage one day and was trying to maneuver
him over to allow room for a motorcycle. I put it in park with
the motor running and stepped out of the car to see if I was over far
enough and it popped into reverse! The door was open and the car started
driving backwards towards me. The edge of the car door got stuck
on the edge of the garage door and started to buckle backwards.
At this point I threw myself headfirst towards the car door, landed
on my stomach and reached in with my right hand to hit the brake pedal
and my left to turn off the engine. This little accident caused
about $1500 in body work and many sleepless nights.
How did you become a Belle: Jamie was driving
by in her Falcon and saw me with mine so she stopped to chat and tell
me about the club. I was invited to a car show to meet the gals,
and I was hooked.
